I have always owned sports cars - generally Triumph TR7s. I have owned them all apart from a TR7. I never thought that I would ever buy anything else.

But earlier this year I sold my 1954 TR2 and when I went to Le Mans in the family Vectra it wasn’t the same. OK - it took more wine and cold beer and lots of stuff to have fun with but I will never do it again like that.

So I came back and spoke to the current Mrs Jarry-Ryan and told her I wanted a Corvette. Surprisingly she said “Ok then - get one. I looked and researched and realised that here in the wilds of Norfolk it was a totally impractical idea. That made me look at alternatives.
I rejected the MGF and the MR2 and came down to the MX5. But I knew nothing about them. I liked the look but that was the extent of my knowledge. So the internet came in handy and I went out and drove one for sale in the local area. I was hooked but it was UK spec and seemed very basic for its price - not that my TR2 was sophisticated in any way.

That’s when I found your site. It was well laid out and we exchanged a few emails about what engine and transmission. I was at my in-laws over one weekend and you kindly arranged to let me spend a Sunday afternoon driving what I wanted to from your stock. The choice never really was mine - my wife and son spotted the BRG 1.6 and insisted on having a spoiler, so that was it.
Again I was impressed at the aspects you covered during the sale but without any pressure on me to have anything extra at all. As far as collection was concerned I was probably a right pain as my work plans changed over the week and the day was brought forward. You still managed to deliver on time and it looked great. Driving back I realised it not only looked great; it was super fun to drive.

I have had it nearly just over five weeks now and apart from a two-week holiday I have driven it every day. It has never disappointed me in any way and is a pleasure to drive - especially topless. The family are delighted particularly my 19-year-old daughter who thinks it is cool - praise indeed!

If anyone reads this and is thinking about buying an MX5 from David - you won’t go far wrong in my experience. You may find a cheaper model somewhere but it won’t look like its just come off the production line like this one did and you won’t feel so relaxed about buying. I am certain that this is one decision I will not regret - a great looking car suitable for all weathers with performance (even my 1.6) that is enough for anyone.
