Due to a review of the amount of time we spend on each car and the checklists we perform the cost of servicing is now £210 including VAT. This is due to an increase in our hourly rate to £55 plus VAT.
This change was supposed to happen at the beginning of April and I am sure some of you will want to know how the price can go up by £20. Well, for starters, the garage across the road from us, a general independent local garage actually charges more than us per hour for any work carried out. And they don't specialise in any cars. Take your car there and in all likelihood they would spend more time looking at your car (as they don't specialise) to solve or fix the same problems. Our hourly labour rate now matches theirs to bring us in line with local prices for the area. Just to make it a little easier to stomach the nearest Mazda dealer to us still charge £75 per hour plus VAT. So per hour we are still £20 cheaper. Secondly there's servicing and there's servicing. I opened a local paper to see Kwik Fit proclaiming they did 'Servicing for £30'. I suspect that if 5 litres of oil costs £15, an oil filter £5 and the labour to do it £10 then that's what you're getting. An oil change. Hardly what I'd describe as a 'service'. We have a 50+ point checklist including air filter, oil and filter, fuel filter, sparks, full light check and a host of other top-ups, lubrications and checks which take us well over 2 (closer to 3) hours to complete. We keep all parts for your inspection and we also, whenever possible, get one of the mechanics who worked on your car to talk you through every part of the service or explain any parts you don't understand. And we ONLY work on MX5s.
And if you don't want the full whammy every time, just tell us what you do want. If anyone has any questions just contact me and I'd be more than happy to elaborate.
