This was initially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001. Unfortunately it remained a concept car.
The following is some blurb from Mazda:
The Roadster MPS features the BP-VE engine, a naturally aspirated, in-line 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine. For faster throttle response and higher output, four independently actuated throttle valves and high-lift camshafts were adopted, yielding a piston speed of 19.8m/second, maximum output of 147kW (200PS) at 7,000rpm and maximum torque of 196Nm (20.0kg-m) at 6,000rpm.
The chassis is designed to expand the performance envelope during active dynamic driving, while maintaining comfortable relaxed cruising in urban areas. The combination of height-adjustable mono-tube dampers and coil springs, and new-construction 17-inch tires assures superb grip in all driving situations, resulting in improved handling performance and greater ride comfort for stress-free motoring. Front and rear suspension mounting points are further reinforced with a large-sized lightweight aluminum ladder underbody reinforcement for enhanced rigidity.
