Ken had purchased his first MX-5 from Dandycars.com but unfortunately the car had been written off in an accident. You can read about Ken's first car on Part 1 of Ken's review. Read on to find out why he decided to purchase from Dandycars.com again!!!
"Ken's story - Part II My wife's (Carol) two year love affair with our blue Mazda was brought to a premature end by an old ***** when his car leapt from a supermarket car park and wrote off the Mazda. The insurance company (as per usual) wasn't offering anything like enough to replace our much cherished car... So, who you gonna call? Dandycars. I rang Dave and told him our tale of woe, and as usual he couldn't be more helpful. The first offer he made was to write a note for the insurers telling them what our previous car was really worth, in his opinion. We chatted about whether, and if so what, we wanted as a replacement. Carol had decided she didn't want another blue one and Dave's normal acquisitions of 'special editions' may be outside the price range for what the insurance was likely to pay out. As he was just going to Japan to select his next consignment he said he would keep an eye out for a suitable bargain. After a number of emails (while he was still in Japan thanks to his son Mark) we heard he had sourced us a red car which should work out about the right price. Unfortunately, between Japan and the UK this car became damaged along every panel down one side. Dave suggested we visit him and make a decision once we had seen the car do we wait for the car he had bought with us in mind to be repaired, or, do we see something else we like while we are there. I am still a Trading Standards Officer, and so I am still very careful when buying anything, especially secondhand cars. Between the time of hearing our car had been damaged and visiting Dave I spent many an hour searching for other alternatives on the websites and visiting dealers. What a waste of time. We went to see Dave and the car he had bought with us in mind. It was repairable 'it would still be a good car worth the money but it would add time and summer is coming. As per usual there was no pressure and yet every facility offered. I forget how many cars we tried that afternoon but at the end of it we had a short list of options open to us: wait for the red car to be repaired or buy one of the others that Dave had to offer. Carol was particularly taken with a dark blue one, but that was going to stretch the bank balance to its 'outer limits'. A black one with red leather upholstery also took her eye, which was still more than we had hoped to pay, but was not going to mean 'house repossession', hopefully. Dave (while still being a businessman (it's easy to forget that sometimes) did the best he could to help us reach a decision which was best for us. At the end of the day we said we would give him a decision the following day. This was accepted without any pressure or sharp intakes of breath about 'can't say it will still be here tomorrow', but the following day we let him know our decision 'the black one please'. As it was UK registered already, we picked it up the following Saturday, after it had been serviced and undersealed. This is being written after only two days of ownership so I can't say it has the same pleasure to own as the previous one, but indications are that Dave has come up trumps again. Thanks Dave! And thanks to Paul who was also a great help when we were there for the day trying out the cars."
